Spanish Question Words

Question words or interrogative words in Spanish (palabras interrogativas) are used to gather information about any topic. All question words in Spanish have an accent mark and are preceded by an inverted question mark. See Question Words Exercise.

Differences Between ¿Por qué? and Porque

• ¿Por qué? is used for questioning when you want to find out a reason
  Example:
  ¿Por qué quieres un auto nuevo? Why do you want a new car?

• Porque (because) is used in the reply of your question. It is one word and it has not accent mark.
  Example:
  ¿Por qué quieres un auto nuevo? / Why do you want a new car?
  Porque el mío es un auto viejo. / Because mine is an old car.
