The ordinal numbers in Spanish (Los números ordinales en español) are used to assign a place and can be used as adjectives and pronouns.

Ordinal Numbers as Adjectives and Nouns
Examples:
Isabela es la cuarta.
Isabela is the fourth (one).
Es la tercera vez que vengo aquí.
It is the third time I have come here.
El segundo día, fuimos al parque.
The second day we went to the park.
- When using primero and tercero as adjectives and are precede by a masculine noun, they drop the -o
Examples:
Andre y Daniel viven en el primer piso.
Andre and Daniel live on the first floor.
El restaurante está en el tercer piso del hotel.
The restaurant is on the third floor of the hotel.
El primer lugar, Laura lo ganó.
The first place, Laura won it.
Numbers as Fractions Used as Adjectives, Articles and Nouns in Spanish
- Medio, mitad = Half (½)
- Un tercio, la tercera parte = One third, the third part (⅓)
- Un cuarto, cuarta parte = Quarter, fourth part (¼)
- Tres cuartos, tres cuartas partes = three quarters (¾)
- Dos tercios, dos terceras partes = two-thirds (⅔)
- Medio is an adjective which agrees in gender with the noun that follows it. Medio also has a feminine form, media, but it can be used only with singular nouns.
Examples:
Ayer me comí medio sándwich de almuerzo.
Yesterday I had half a sandwich for lunch.
Hay media naranja en la mesa.
There’s half an orange on the table.

Examples:
La tercera parte de la población no votó por el presidente.
A third (the third part) of the population did not vote for the president.
Una cuarta parte de los estudiantes pasó la prueba de química.
A quarter of the students passed the chemistry test.
- Fractions as masculine nouns
Example:
Dos tercios de los demócratas votaron a favor de la propuesta.
Two-thirds of Democrats voted in favor of the proposal.
