In Spanish, prepositions (las preposiciones) are words that serve as connectors. Prepositions are used to link pronouns, nouns, and/or other words in a sentence.

Preposition	Meaning	Example Use
a	at, to	Viajaremos a españa./We will travel to Spain.
ante	before, in the presence of	Estamos ante el juez. We are before the judge.
bajo	under	Tengo los libros bajo la mesa. I have the books under the table.
con	with	Voy a pagar con efectivo. I will pay with cash.
contra	against	Lucía está en contra de el proyecto. Lucia is against the project.
de	of, from	Carlos compró una caja de fresas. Carlos bought a box of strawberries
desde	after, from, since	Desde octubre no te veía. I haven’t seen you since October.
durante	during	Mi tío me llamo durante el examen. My uncle called me during the exam.
en	in, on	Entró en la casa sin permiso. He entered in the house without permission.
entre	among, between	El secreto se queda entre los dos. The secret stays between the two.
hacia	toward	Rosa va hacia el parque. Rosa goes toward the park.
hasta	until, up to, as far as	La fiesta duró hasta las nueve. The party lasted until nine.
menos	except	Todos quieren ir a la fiesta menos yo. Everyone wants to go to the party except me.
para	for, in order to	Tengo una cartera para Ana. I have a purse for Ana.
por	by, for	Pedro entró por la ventana. Peter entered through the window.
según	according to	Según Luis, él es ingeniero. According to Luis, he is an engineer.
sin	without	Sofia no puede estar sin comer manzanas. Sofia can’t be without eating apples.
sobre	on, upon, over, above	Los libros están sobre la mesa. The books are on the table.

Luisa no come desde ayer.
Luisa has not eaten since yesterday.

Pedro y Lorena trabajan para mí.
Pedro and Lorena work for me.

Carmen no puede vivir sin tomar café.
Carmen can’t live without coffee.

Según Marta, ella no come chocolates.
